Curuçá bridge collapse investigation with Leica's 3D reality capture solution

Case study: Brazil Federal Police uses Leica RTC360 Laser Scanner to quickly and reliably capture point clouds of the extensive disaster site

In 2022, the Brazilian Federal Police investigated the collapsed Curuçá River Bridge on the BR-319 highway leading to Manaus, the Capital of Amazonas state.

According to witnesses, the bridge was closed on the day of the incident due to concerns about erosion of the riverbanks and the ominous appearance of holes in the road surface. The day before the incident, teams from the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the Departamento Nacional de Infraestructura de Transportes (DNIT) were already monitoring the situation and supervising the traffic. Only people on foot and light vehicles were permitted to cross.

So what went wrong?
